Nigerian man allegedly beats his pregnant wife, who was the breadwinner, to death



A nurse who is 8-months pregnant has died and her husband has been accused of beating her to death.

The woman, identified as Ms Anya Adaeze, aka Mummy David, was allegedly beaten by her husband, Olabode Oluwasanmi, in Akure, Ondo State.

According to sources, the incident happened last week. The deceased was 8-months pregnant when the domestic violence incident occurred.

It was revealed that she had a misunderstanding with her husband and he allegedly beat her up with an iron rod. The beating was so serious that she was rushed to Federal Medical Centre, in Owo, and upon examination, it was discovered that her uterus had been ruptured.

An emergency Caesarean section was done to bring out the baby but the baby didn't survive. Adaeze was placed on oxygen and died on Tuesday, April 14th, 2020.

It was gathered that Adaeze, who was the breadwinner of the house, had allegedly revealed to her colleagues at Federal Medical Centre, Owo, about the abusive nature of Olabode before her death.

Australia's east coast is rattled by a 4.8-magnitude earthquake

An earthquake has been recorded off the North Queensland coast in Australia with GeoScience saying the magnitude-4.8 quake happened at about 5:00pm on Wednesday.

The quake was reportedly felt in Bowen, Mackay, Townsville, Ayr and Airlie Beach. 

There have not been any reports of damage to homes or injuries but State emergency services in the area have been put on alert as they wait for calls for assistance.

Terry Stone, from Bowen, told the Townsville Bulletin that he 'felt a bit of a rumble' that sounded like thunder.

'The house shook a little bit, it felt like big thunder close by, I didn't realise what it was,' he said.

Lai Mohammed explains why N15b donated by private Nigerians and companies can't be shared to all Nigerian

Lai Mohammed, Nigeria's Minister of Information, has explained why the Federal government cannot share to Nigerians the funds donated by private Nigerians and organizations for the fight against COVID19.

Over N15 billion have been donated by private Nigerians and organizations under the auspice ''COVID-19 Relief Fund''.

Nigerians have called on the government to share the N15 billion donated as palliatives during the lockdown over the Coronavirus pandemic.

Reacting to this call, the Minister who was featured on a Radio Nigeria programme yesterday April 14, said the Federal government does not have the power to distriubute such funds. He explained that the private individuals and organizations came together to donate the funds and asked the Federal government how they can help to effectively fight the pandemic.

Lai Mohammed said the Federal government has advised the private individuals to use their donations to help develop the healthcare infrastructure in the country.

“The private sector donors are not giving any cash to the federal government and they have made this clear to the people. They said they will support the fight against the pandemic by asking government where they want healthcare infrastructure to be provided. 
What government has done is to request them to build a 30-bed isolation ward and a 10-bed Intensive Care Unit in each state in the country. In addition, the federal government has given them a list of equipment and commodities that will also be needed. Therefore, the issue of using their donations to provide palliative cannot arise.” Lai said

Former Adamawa Council Chairman killed in midnight attack

Sabastine Kaikai, the former Transition Management Committee chairman of Ganye local government area was killed in an attacked launched in the early hours of Tuesday April 14. 

Though why the gunmen killed the late politician is yet to be deciphered, it was however gathered that the former council chairman was killed in his village, Kaikai, in Ganye LGA of Adamawa State. 

Sabastine was in his village for the Easter holiday when the gunmen struck. A neighbour said; 

“The gunmen came in the middle of the night shooting into the air and rushing to his house.
“He struggled to sneak out of his residence, but they got him. They killed him instantly.”

Ganye local government Information Officer, Mr Kabiru Njidda also confirmed the murder incident. 

Njidda said; 

“The corpse of the late former chairman has been brought to the Ganye General Hospital mortuary."

The Nation reported that the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state, DSP Suleiman Nguroje said the command had responded by sending its men after the killers. The police team were deployed to ensure the arrest of the suspects

Donald Trump reacted to Bernie Sanders dropping out of the presidential race by trolling Democrats and taking a dig at Elizabeth Warren who dropped out of the race earlier.

In a tweet shared after Bernie Sanders' announcement, Trump also invited Sanders supporters to join the Republican party.

Sanders announced he was dropping out Wednesday morning after staying in the race for weeks against Joe Biden.

Afterwards, Trump mockingly tweeted, “Bernie Sanders is OUT! Thank you to Elizabeth Warren. If not for her, Bernie would have won almost every state on Super Tuesday! This ended just like the Democrats & the DNC wanted, same as the Crooked Hillary fiasco. The Bernie people should come to the Republican Party, TRADE!"

Celebrities call for arrest of journalists and security operatives swarming around Funke Akindele and JJC Skillz while being arraigned in court (video)

Some Nigerian celebrities have called for the arrest of journalists and security operatives spotted swarming around Funke Akindele and JJC Skillz while being arraigned in court today April 6, for violating a lockdown order on public gathering after they hosted a house party. 

LIB reported earlier that the couple were handed a fine of N100,000 each and also sentenced to 14 days community service, three hours per day excluding Saturday and Sunday.

Reacting to the video which emerged after Funke Akindele and JJC were arraigned, some Nigerian celebrities accused those spotted in the video of violating the social distancing policy and ban on public gathering of more than 20 people.
