Two security officers beaten to death after their vehicle rammed into an Easter procession in Gombe State killing 8 people

A security official drove into a procession of Christian youth, celebrating Easter, killing at least eight people on Sunday night. The survivors among the youth then chased the security official and his passenger, caught up with them and lynched them.

The incident happened in Alheri junction, Biu road of Gombe State. The driver of the vehicle is said to be an official of the civil defence (NSCDC) while his passenger is said to be a police officer. Both men died from the beating.

Chairman of the Gombe State Battalion Brigade of the Boys Brigade, Isaac Kwadang, told reporters that he received information about the incident around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday. According to him, the civil defence officer, though not on official duty, met the procession, exchanged words with the youth, and drove past them. He allegedly switched off his car’s full lights, reversed the vehicle and rammed into the procession killing eight people on the spot.

Many of the victims are members of the boys brigade. Kwadang said the youth chased the security officers, caught up with them and mobbed them to death. He said the youth are still being prevailed on not to continue with any violent reaction.

The Chief Medical Director of the Gombe State Specialist Hospital, Shuaibu Muazu, confirmed that some dead bodies from the incident have been deposited in the hospital while the Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps, Godwin Omuko, confirmed the incident to journalists. He said his men were among those that brought the dead bodies to the hospital.

Two Nigerians arrested in Philippines for smuggling N125m worth of drugs

Two Nigerians have been arrested by Phillipine Police with about N125 million worth of methamphetamine.

According to Phillipino media, the police men arrested a Nigerian businessman identified as Azubuike Obiaghanwa Onwigbolu, 32, a resident of Angeles City, Pampanga, at 2:15 a.m. today Sunday April 21st. Onwigbolu was arrested through a buy-bust operation, wherein a Philippine

National Police (PNP) personnel acted as a buyer and bought 200 grams of methamphetamine amounting to P400,000. Following his arrest, the police operatives recovered P16 million worth of the drugs.

The other Nigerian identified as Mbaneto Sopuluchukwu alias “Hermann Kurt Philip,” 22, was arrested alongside his accomplice, Judith Balaquiao-Camacho, 46, from Bombon, Camarines Sur, in another sting operation.

A poseur buyer and an informant from the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Bicol and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Camarines Sur, posed as buyers and purchased 100 grams of methamphetamine using fake money.

Kim Kardashian -'I won't use my privilege to buy my children's way into college'

Kim Kardashian has said that she would not use her privilege to get her children into a college that they couldn't get into on their own because it wouldn't help anybody.

"If they couldn't get into a school, I would never want to use privilege to try to force them into a situation that they wouldn't thrive in anyway. So that's where I just see that that's not appropriate," she told CNN's Van Jones on Saturday night.

Adding that, "I want my kids to be kind. I want them to be as grounded as possible. And to buy your way into something just wouldn't benefit anybody".

The tactical teams of the Edo State Police Command have arrested four suspected members of the much dreaded Boko Haram insurgents.

Spokesman of the command, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor, disclosed this in a statement he released to journalists in Benin Saturday evening, titled: “Arrest of suspected Boko Haram members/armed 

robbers/kidnappers/cultists and recovery of arms and ammunition.”

He described the suspects as notorious gang members of kidnapping, armed robbery and Boko Haram syndicates ?that were terrorizing Kogi and Edo States axis. The statement disclosed that a coordinated intelligence collaboration between operatives of the Department of State SSecurity, DSS and the police, led to the arrest of the suspects.

It said: “Based on credible intelligence through the Department of the State Security (DSS) in conjunction with the office of the Inspector-General of Police, Edo State Police Command was alerted by the Inspector-General of Police that the above mentioned criminal elements are planning coordinated attacks against police formations in Edo State.

“The Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, Dan-Mallam Mohammed, directed the tactical teams of the command to go after the criminals.

“On 19/04/2019, a robust raiding, coding and search was conducted within Auchi axis, which resulted in the arrest of the following: Salihu Uzovehe (23), Hadi Musa Gambari (23), Tijani Garuba (24) and Mohammed Abdulkadri (44), who are deadly and notorious gang members of kidnapping and armed robbery syndicates ?that are terrorising Kogi and Edo States axis.”

Items allegedly recovered from the suspects include an old carton-color Toyota Valet car with registration number AG-721-AGZ, one pump-action gun, two locally made guns, 20 live cartridges, a pair of police mobile force uniform, two face masks and charms.

“The command, therefore, appealed to members of the public to be vigilant and always be at alert about suspicious movement of persons and report same to the police,” the statement said.

The Lagos state police command have arrested 27-year old Alowale Salu, pictured above, who ambushed and used a gun to forcefully rape a lady who jilted him in their area in Ojumoye in the Ikorodu area in the state.

Parading the suspect before newsmen, the state Commissioner of Police, 

Zubairu Muazu, said Salu confessed to defiling the victim and tried to justify his action. Accoridng to Salu, he had approached the victim sometime ago and she turned him down. Humiliated, he vowed he was going to rape her so as to get back his respect.

“On the day the incident happened, I went to one of my friends, Bayo, borrowed a gun and ambushed the victim on the road at night. I made her to surrender, forcefully penetrated her and collected her phone before i allowed her to go” Salu said.

He blamed the whole thing on the lady saying that if she had accepted in the first instance, that there would have been no need to obtain sex from her with a gun.

The police chief said the suspect was arrested after the victim reported the case. He said the suspect would be charged to court soon.

Embattled Justice Walter Onnoghen has rejected the judgement of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) which convicted him of six counts of false declaration of assets preferred against him by the Federal Government.

Shortly after the judgement delivered on Thursday, the judge filed a notice of appeal at the Court of Appeal in Abuja to challenge the ruling of the Tribunal. In the notice, the “Federal Government of Nigeria” was listed as the only respondent.

Part of it read, “Take notice that the appellant herein, Justice Onnoghen Nkanu Walter Samuel being dissatisfied with the rulings/judgement of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Coram Danladi Umar (Chairman), William Atedze (Member I) and Julie A Anakor (Member II) delivered on the 18th of April, 2019, wherein it ruled on the application challenging its jurisdiction and to recuse itself from the proceedings as well the judgement on the substantive matter against the appellant, do hereby appeal upon the grounds set out in paragraph 3 hereof and will at the hearing of the appeal, seek the reliefs and orders set out in paragraph 4.”

In one of the 16 grounds, Justice Onnoghen said the CCT erred in law when it dismissed his application challenging its jurisdiction and thus, occasioned a grave miscarriage of justice. He added that the Tribunal erred in law when it dismissed his application seeking the chairman to recuse himself from further

proceedings on the ground of “bias”.
Justice Onnoghen, however, sought an order of the appeal court allowing his appeal and that the CCT lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the case. He also asked the court to set aside his conviction as well as discharge and acquit him, among other prayers. The Tribunal had convicted Justice Onnoghen and removed him from office as the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) and Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).

It also banned him from holding public office for the next 10 years and ordered the judge to forfeit all five accounts said not to have been declared by him between 2009 and 2015. The Tribunal held that the government proved beyond reasonable doubt that Justice Onnoghen breached the Code of Conduct for Public Officers.

Authorities in the Philippines arrested a 45-year-old woman who was caught offering to sexually abuse her daughters and stream live the exploitation for a paying online predator.

Operatives of the Women and Children Protection Center – Visayas Field Unit (WCPC-VFU) carried out an entrapment operation in a northern barangay in Mandaue City around 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning, April 16.

They arrested the suspected online trafficker after she offered her two youngest daughters, ages 6 and 7, for online sexual abuse.
The suspect had transmitted online sexually explicit materials involving the two girls.

Police also learned she previously offered her 15-year-old daughter for online child sexual exploitation.

This operation resulted from a "cybertip" received by the Department of Justice-Office of Cybercrime (DOJ-OOC) from the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), which is based in the United States.

“WCPC will relentlessly pursue suspects of online sexual exploitation of children (OSEC) until all suspects are arrested and jailed,” said WCPC-VFU Chief Romeo Perigo.

The Mandaue City Police Office, through its Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), and International Justice Mission (IJM) supported the operation.

Social workers from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) were also present in the rescue.
Aside from the three girls, authorities also removed the suspect’s two other children, ages 13 and 17, for assessment as they are considered at risk of exploitation.
The siblings are now receiving trauma-informed care.

This operation was a result of the Advanced Investigative Workshop (AIW), which is presented by IJM, with funding from the US Department of State, in partnership with Australian Federal Police, National Police of the Netherlands, UK National Crime Agency, INTERPOL, US Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Queensland Police Service, and with additional support from Western Union, PLDT, and Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation.

The outcomes in this matter were supported by the Philippine Internet Crimes Against Children Center (PICACC), which serves as a hub for domestic Philippine and foreign law enforcement collaborative efforts to combat online sexual exploitation of children (OSEC).

The PICACC is a joint initiative between the National Bureau of Investigation and the Philippine National Police supported by the Australian Federal Police, United Kingdom National Crime Agency and non-government organization International Justice Mission.

Occurring in different communities in the Philippines, OSEC is a crime that violates the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act or Republic Act 9208, as amended by RA 10364, which comes with a maximum penalty of life imprisonment and a fine of P2 million to P5 million pesos.

Typical OSEC offenses also violate RA 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012; and RA 9775 or the Anti?Child Pornography Act of 2009.

Authorities in the Philippines arrested a 45-year-old woman who was caught offering to sexually abuse her daughters and stream live the exploitation for a paying online predator.

Operatives of the Women and Children Protection Center – Visayas Field Unit (WCPC-VFU) carried out an entrapment operation in a northern barangay in Mandaue City around 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning, April 16.

They arrested the suspected online trafficker after she offered her two youngest daughters, ages 6 and 7, for online sexual abuse.
The suspect had transmitted online sexually explicit materials involving the two girls.

Police also learned she previously offered her 15-year-old daughter for online child sexual exploitation.
