Breaking:Nigeria is worse off than it was in 1993 - MKO Abiola’s son, Abdulmumuni
Abdulmumuni, son of the late Chief MKO Abiola, has spoken on the lack of progress in the country since 1993.
Speaking on the June 12 (Democracy Day) the late Alhaja Kudirat Abiola’s son lamented that the education and health sectors had collapsed.
President Buhari on Monday signed into law the Public Holiday (Amendment) Bill, making June 12 a public holiday in the country. It also becomes the country’s official
Democracy Day, replacing May 29, which hitherto was a public holiday.
The President took the decision to honour the presumed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, MKO Abiola. But Abdulmumuni said June 12 should be a day of national sober reflection for Nigerians as the
“people are getting poorer and the poverty rate is increasing”.
Abdulmumuni, who was at the National Centre for Women Development in Abuja on Monday to receive an award on behalf of his late mother, who was inducted into the Nigerian Women Hall of Fame alongside 21 others, said;
“The recognition of June 12 as Democracy Day will get people thinking. I don’t think it should be a day of celebration. It should be a day of reflection of where we are as a country and where we are going. It is important that we should know that for the decisions we make today, there are consequences.
“This is because those who made the decisions to truncate the Nigerian people’s yearning for democracy in 1993 would now see that sometimes when you make certain decisions, you must see the consequences.
“The country is worse off than it was in 1993. My father was trying to address certain issues like poverty eradication and free education. But what is going on in the country now? The education system is dilapidated. The health care system is nothing. People are getting poorer and the rich are getting richer.
The poverty rate is increasing. I think the idea is that June 12 should be a day of reflection and I believe we can get out of this situation.”

Okorocha receives his Certificate of Return from INEC
The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has finally issued former Imo state governor, Rochas Okorocha, a certificate of return for winning the February 23rd Senatorial election in Imo West.
Okorocha was declared the winner of the February 23rd election but the returning officer, Innocent Ibeabuchi, said he was forced to make the declaration. The Certificate of Return was then withheld by INEC.
Two court judgements barred the electoral body from issuing the Certificate. Justice Abang of the Federal High Court Abuja however ordered the commission to issue Okorocha the certificate immediately.
Well, INEC this evening obeyed the judgement and has issued him the certificate.

“Sadly, I was not done making him proud” - Adekunle Gold pens emotional tribute to late dad
Nigerian music singer, Adekunle Gold has broken his silence following the death of his father, Prince Hakeem Adeyemi Kosoko who died the 27th of May, 2019 after an unnamed illness and was buried according to Islamic rites on Thursday May 30, at the private vault of Ikoyi Cemetery.
Since the demise of his father, Adekunle Gold hasn’t made any public statement or even shared a post on any of his social media accounts. In this emotional tribute, he wrote on how he was not done making his dad proud before his demise.
Read Below....
I feel a great sense of loss to officially announce that after we fought so hard, my father passed on the 27th of May, 2019.
My father was a GREAT man. He has always been the man I’ve looked up to. Growing up, I watched him work so hard for so little. He was very honest and has never been interested in shortcuts.
Hard work and integrity meant everything to him. My father. I will always remember, what he said in this statement: "I've been in service far too long to let quick money ruin my reputation". This was my Father.
He is forever to be remembered as a teacher. My teacher.
We all know that teachers weren't big earners but my dad would ensure we always had everything we ever needed.
My Dad was so loving towards me. My father often wanted me to toughen up, it’s funny because he was the opposite tender and sentimental about me and my sisters.
Sadly, I was not done making him proud, there are dreams I had with him in the picture, I don’t know guys, I really wasn’t done.
I find little solace in something I read today. “God knows how to write straight on crooked lines” This area is very crooked for me, these are depths of grief that I have never dived. But God...God will figure it out.
I thank you all for your prayers, your support, your kind words. None of them have gone unnoticed. I pray the love you’ve shown me will be accorded you in your time of need.
To my Dad, the greatest man I will ever know in this life and the next, sun re o!
Adieu papa. May your soul rest in perfect peace.
